1997년 7월 10일 38세의 나이로 세상을 떠난
하와이 원주민들의 정신적 지주인 Israel Kamakawiwo' Ole의
시신을 보기 위해 1만 명의 원주민들이 주청사에 몰려들었다.
그들은 그를 'Brudda IZ'라고 부른다.
하와이 원주민들은 미국이라는 나라에 속해 있으나
그들이 사랑한 음악은 바로 'IZ'의 노래였다.
300kg의 육중한 몸에서 울려나오는 하와이 고유의 한과 정서는
하와이인들을 하나로 묶기에 충분하다.
또 그것은 하와이인들의 자긍심이기도 하다.
